Wrist surgery costs Van Gerwen two major dart tournaments

Michael van Gerwen will go under the knife in mid-June for an operation on his right wrist. The three-time world darts champion had been suffering from a tingling sensation in his throwing arm for some time. This can be corrected with surgery.

The operation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, the day after the Premier League play-offs in Berlin, which will also see Johnny Clayton, James Wade and Joe Cullen.

The 33-year-old Brabant acknowledges the consequences of the interference by saying: “Unfortunately I miss the 16th and 17th Players Championships and the World Cup Darts”. “But now is the right time to solve the problem.”

Van Duijvenbode falls

Van Gerwen was supposed to work with Danny Noppert at the World Darts Cup, the team competition to be held in Frankfurt from June 16-19, but now Dirk van Duijvenbode takes the place.

“The good news is that I will be 100 percent again when my recovery is over,” says Van Gerwen, who hopes to be back in shape by mid-July when World Matchplay is on the program.
