World number one, Iga Swiatek, reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. Zheng Qinwen, who is 74th in the world rankings, looked like an easy hurdle to overcome, but despite getting injured after an hour and a half of high-level tennis, the Chinese proved tough. Poland won 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-2.
Unaffected by Swiatek’s impressive run (31 in a row), Zheng launched an impeccable attack. He came back from timeout twice, took five set points and then also won the tiebreak, despite Swiatek leading 5-2.
A thigh injury then threw a wrench into things. Zheng received treatment for beating the second set 3-0 and only got two games left.
Swiatek will face the American Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals, who agreed with the Romanian Irina Begu in three sets.

Earlier today, Daria Kasatkina reached the quarterfinals in Paris for the second time in her career. The 20th seeded Russian was the better Italian Camila Giorgi, eight places behind, 6-2 and 6-2.
