In the second leg of the Conference League, AZ will play against SP Tre Penne from San Marino or FK Tuzla City from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nyon announced the draw on Wednesday.
The diptych is from 21 and 28 July. Plays AZ first. If Coach Pascal Jansen’s squad continues, the third qualifying round and play-offs must take place in August to qualify for the main tournament, which starts in early September.
Tre Penne lost last season in the play-off final just before their league title in San Marino. The club has won four championships, the latest being in 2019.
Tuzla City also finished second in the Bosnian Championship, far behind the affordable HSK Zrinjski Mostar. The club has never celebrated a championship at the highest level.
AZ was the strongest of the play-offs
AZ finished fifth last season and defeated sc Heerenveen and Vitesse in a row in the play-offs to secure the ticket for the second qualifying round of the Conference League. Alkmaarders play in Europe for the fifth season in a row.
Last season, AZ played in the main tournament of the Conference League after being eliminated in the play-offs of the Europa League. The two-time national champion was eliminated in the round of 16 by FK Bodø/Glimt.
For the Netherlands, FC Twente (Conference League third heat), Feyenoord (Europa League group stage), PSV (Champions League third heat) and Ajax (UEFA Champions League Champions League groups) will also play in Europe next season.
