Jumbo-Visma withdrew from the Tour de Suisse on Thursday, two weeks before the start of the Tour de France. The corona virus is circulating in the Dutch cycling team. At INEOS-Grenadiers and DSM, runners also have to dismount after a positive test, but these teams remain on track.
It is not known who he is, but Robert Gesink, Sepp Kuss and Rohan Dennis are probably infected. Positive corona tests are bad news in the run-up to the Tour, which starts on July 1. Normally, Kiss and Dennis start there.
“The situation does not affect the pre-selection of the Tour de France, although we will of course have to wait for developments in the coming days,” Jumbo-Visma said in a press release.
The riders and staff of the Dutch formation were tested daily in Switzerland. Jumbo-Visma also still uses mouth caps and air purification columns. Runners also only sleep in one room.
Jumbo-Visma was introduced to the public on Wednesday before the start of the fourth stage.
INEOS leader Yates also resigned
Jumbo-Visma is not the only Tour de Suisse team fighting against corona threats. INEOS Grenadiers leader Adam Yates left the track due to pollution. The 29-year-old Briton also wants to participate in the Tour in two weeks. Three drivers tested positive at DSM: Dutchman Cees Bol and Danes Søren Kragh Andersen and Casper Pedersen.
The Tour de Suisse, an important stage race in terms of lap, consists of four stages. British Bahrain Stephen Williams is the leader of the Victorious standings. There are still four stages to go, including two mountain stages.
Kuss was Jumbo-Visma’s best driver. The American mountaineer finished seventh and, like Yates, was ten seconds behind leader Williams. In the round, Kuss has to help leader Primoz Roglic to take the overall victory.
