The more pressing question is whether winger Cody Gakpo will still be there in early August. The International is in the interest of some clubs, such as Ibrahim Sangaré. Van Nistelrooij can do no more than “wait and see”.
“Gakpo knows what to expect from me and what’s coming my way. It is important for him to know this. You prefer to explain it as soon as possible, but you know that you are bound by the transfer window.”
Incidentally, Mario Götze was also absent from the training field on Monday. The club has confirmed that Germany will be given the space by PSV to complete the transition to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Different accents, new course
Van Nistelrooij replaced Roger Schmidt, who moved to Benfica after two seasons at PSV. After the departure of Toon Gerbrands, he also became the new general manager of the club together with Marcel Brands.
“Where new people come from, different accents are placed,” says Van Nistelrooij, assistant coach at Orange and youth trainer at PSV in recent years. “I don’t want to go into accents too much, so you get it right away: the predecessor didn’t. Not so.”
“The new project actually started with the arrival of Marcel Brands, who came out of the box like a rose. And when a new GM arrives, you know it can go the other way. However, for me the cards are a strong feeling that I have: I want to be part of this new beginning.”
