Sebastien Haller will exchange Ajax to Borussia Dortmund this summer Telegram and VII Wednesday. The German club agreed a fee of 35 million euros for the striker, who will sign a multi-year contract.
Ajax reportedly received a fixed transfer fee of 31 million euros for 28-year-old Haller. Thanks to guaranteed bonuses, this amount will rise to EUR 35 million. Haller is expected to undergo a health check on Thursday.
Arkadiusz Milik was withdrawn from sixth place on the Ajax list of most expensive outgoing purchases with 35 million euros. Only Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt, Hakim Ziyech, Davinson Sánchez and Donny van de Beek left the Amsterdam club for a higher fee.
For Haller, a transfer to Dortmund means a return to the Bundesliga. In 2017, he replaced FC Utrecht with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 33 goals in 77 games in two seasons.
Expectations are high. Haller must deal with the departure of top striker Erling Haaland and it will also be one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history. Ousmane Dembélé holds the record with 35 million euros.
Sebastien Haller was Ajax’s top scorer in the Champions League last season.
Sale offers Ajax space for Bergwijn
Haller had a one and a half year contract with Ajax, which bought him from West Ham United in January for 22.5 million euros. With these transfer fees, he became the most expensive Eredivisie player of all time. In his first season, he won both the league championship and the cup, but was unable to appear in Europe due to a clerical error.
Haller had a great season this season with 11 goals in the Champions League. He scored two of the 11 goals against Borussia Dortmund in the group stage. He also played an important role in Ajax’s 36th national championship with 21 goals in the competition.
The sale of Haller gives Ajax more room for the arrival of Steven Bergwijn, among others. Ajax has long been trying to get a striker from Tottenham Hotspur. The former PSV player is expected to cost around 25 million euros.
Ajax has not yet registered any new players for the new season, which Erik ten Hag will replace by Alfred Schreuder. The record champion saw the two superpowers split with Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch.
