Hockey players beat Spain in Pro League by merger Caldas

Dutch hockey players, led by Max Caldas, won the Pro League 4-3 against Spain on Saturday. The Orange already had confidence in the overall victory in the Pro League, so nothing else was at stake in Den Bosch.

The Netherlands immediately withdrew from Spain in the opening phase thanks to strikes by Thierry Brinkman and Jelle Galema. The Spaniards also faced Álvaro Iglesias in the first quarter: 2-1. Then Ignacio Rodriguez made it 2-2, but thanks to Terrance Pieters, the Netherlands started the break with a 3-2 lead.

Thanks to Jonas de Geus, the orange team continued after the restart, but it was still an exciting final stage after Jordi Bonastre’s goal. It was 4-3 in favor of the team of national coach Jeroen Delmee, who replaced Caldas in Orange after the Tokyo Olympics.

Under Caldas’ leadership, Orange was disappointing in Tokyo. For the first time since 1984, hockey players were absent from the Olympic semifinals, after which the Argentinian went to work for the Spanish federation. He played against Caldas’ team in the Netherlands in January and won 3-1 in this exhibition game in Cadiz, Spain.

On Sunday, the Netherlands and Spain will face each other again in the Pro League, which is also played in Den Bosch.
