The Browns met three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Watson on Tuesday, ready to be traded from Houston, Texas. The Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints met with Watson on Monday, and the Atlanta Falcons will potentially meet him on Wednesday.
Brown’s interest in Watson indicates they are ready to leave Mayfield. There was commercial speculation about Mayfield even before the Browns followed Watson.
Thanking the city of Cleveland, Mayfield said in a statement: “Other than the silence I experienced in this process, I have no idea what will happen next.” He said she. “I can only control what I am capable of, trusting in God’s plan throughout this process. I have given this franchise everything I have. This is something I always do at every stage and at every level. And that won’t change no matter where I shoot my next knee. “
The Browns’ scheduled meeting with Watson on Tuesday was confirmed by someone familiar with the situation.
The teams’ conversations with Watson came courtesy of the Texans as he prepared for the exchange of Watson, who never played when he was threatened with sexual harassment last season.
A grand jury in Harris County, Texas ruled Friday that Watson, 26, should not be charged with the crime. This has prompted several NFL teams to want to move forward in business talks with the Texans and Watson, but are still threatened by civil lawsuits brought against him by women and a possible suspension from the NFL.
Watson has an exchange point in the contract which gives him significant participation in the selection process for the next team.
Dachon Watson trade talks are likely to intensify between Texans and interested teams
The Browns’ entry into the business talks was intriguing as they have Mayfield, the number one pick in the 2018 draft. Mayfield is coming out of an injured season and signing another season. He plans to raise $ 18,858 million in 2022, with the Browns exercising a fifth-year option on his new first four-year contract.
The Browns have not signed a long-term deal with Mayfield as would be expected if they were currently standing against him as quarterback. Mayfield does not appear in Watson’s promising trade with the Texans.
The Texans were looking for three first-round picks and more (established players or additional draft options) in Watson exchanges.
Hawk reps may meet Watson on Wednesday, a person familiar with the situation confirmed. But Tuesday’s meeting wasn’t exactly scheduled. The Falcons have more Ryan as their quarterback and if they can bring Watson they could replace him with another quarterback.
