At age 89 he died Luciano Nizzola, a man who played a role in Italian football. Manager of Turin in the 1980s, he was the first president of Serie A League and then the number one of the FIGC. Nizzola was the man who led the Italian football revolution, because pay TV came under his management and television rights became a key source of income for Serie A clubs.
The news was given with a tweet Antonello Valentinijournalist who for many years was press officer for the football association, who posted a photo of Nizzola and wrote in support: “Luciano Nizzola died today in Turin. He was 90 years old. Former president of the Football Federation and gentleman of Serie A League A. It is bad news for football and for all Italian sport. For me it is very sad: I remember with respect and affection. and gratitude”.
Nizzola was a lawyer with a great passion for football, he became Turin’s coach in 1982 and remained at the Granada club until 1987, the year in which he was elected president of the Serie A League (which at the time was called Lega Calcio and even included the clubs of Serie B). It arrived at a time when the world of football was being renewed, the Champions League would soon be created, under his management the Italian Super Cup, and especially in the spring of 1993 there was the television rights revolution, with the arrival of pay TV. He remained in the position until 1996, when he replaced Matarrese. As president of the FIGC, he promoted Cesare Maldini in place of Sacchi and then focused on Zoff as head coach for the 2000 European Championships, the year he was not re-elected as president.
