Vingegaard wins the last mountain stage and reinforces the leadership of the Tour

The yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) took this Thursday a decisive step towards victory in the 109th Tour de France, by winning the 18th stage, increasing the difference in the general with the Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates ).

Vingegaard, who waited for the current two-time Tour champion when he fell, charged more than three kilometers from the top of the Hautacam, where the 143.2-kilometer foot race that started in Lourdes ended, and crossed the finish line after 03:59.50 hours, ahead of Pogacar, second at 01:04, and his Belgian teammate Wout van Aert, third at 02:10.

After the last mountain stage of this edition, and two days before arriving in Paris, the 25-year-old Dane leads the general classification with a lead of 03.26 minutes over the young Slovenian from the UAE Emirates and eight over the British Geraint Thomas ( INEOS ), having ahead, on Friday, 188.3 kilometers, mostly flat, between Castelnau-Magnoac and Cahors.
