Letsch expects disappointment at Vitesse to make way for pride

Vitesse manager Thomas Letsch expects disappointment after AS Roma’s Conference League qualifier led to team pride at the end. The Arnhem side drew 1-1 in Italy and that was not enough after their previous 0-1 loss at GelreDome.

“We were very close and as you can imagine everyone is still very disappointed at the moment,” Letsch said after two games were decided by the eventual goal of AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham.

Just like in the first leg, Vitesse was not inferior to AS Roma. In the Stadio Olimpico, the Arnhem team took the lead with a goal from Maximilian Wittek, after which Adrian Grbic and the others got the chance to score the second goal.

“Now is not the time to look back, but I’m sure we can be proud of these games and our adventure later on. We reached a very high level in the two games we played against Roma.”

Letsch was already working on an extension

“If you look at the whole game, we again challenged Roma for possession. In the first half we already had control, but we played a little forward. We talked about it and created more chances after the break. He doesn’t make against the Romans.” semblance of chance.”

Letsch admits he is already preparing for extra time. “I wanted to bring some new players into overtime because I saw that our attackers were tired,” Letsch said. “But sometimes plan and reality don’t quite match.”

Due to elimination, Vitesse’s Conference League adventure ends in Rome. The Arnhem side impressed in their new European tournament against Anderlecht and Tottenham Hotspur, among others.
