What will happen to the 2027 Pan American Games?

The government of the president Ivan Duke Marquez publicly pledged to support the organization of the main competitions of the Olympic cycle in America and to take the first steps so that, after the signing of the contract between Panam Sports (owner of the franchise) and Colombia, the organizing committee could be defined, its legal status and begin to outline its financing. But Sports Minister Guillermo Herrera told El HERALDO yesterday that, because of the steps and planning needed for the fairs, the incoming government of Gustavo Petro will determine how much it will cost to organize the fairs and ensure that the country celebrates them. .

“The support continues, just today I was here in Barranquilla with the president of Panam Sports, with the president of the Colombian Olympic Committee and of course with the mayor of Barranquilla who is reviewing the strategy,” said Herrera.

In October last year, the Sports Minister had assured El HERALDO that the Sports Ministry would undertake the task of declaring the Barranquilla-2027 Pan American Games of National Strategic Importance within the National Council of Economic and Social Policy (Conpes ). “We are in the planning stage for those games. What comes next is that the organization and budget planning will require the Declaration of National Strategic Importance, with a Conpes document that we will present next year to ensure the realization of these games,” he stated at the time.
