Paula Badosa and Maria Sakkari are the last to reach the Indian Wells semifinals. The fifth-seeded Spain started the “Fifth Grand Slam” as the champions champion, beating Veronika Kodermetova 6-3, 6-2 and the sixth-seeded Greek gave Kazakhstan’s Jelena Rybakina the control 7-5.6-4.
Badosa had lost all three duels to Kudermetova, but had no children other than the Russians. He played carelessly and reluctantly and did not react to the balls hit by his opponent.
Sakkari quickly took a 4-1 lead, but still won the set, thanks in part to Rybakina’s twenty downs. He missed four time-outs at the start of the second set and broke right after.

Earlier in the day, the Polish Iga Swiatek and the Romanian Simona Halep were placed in the last four. Both did so with a great display of force.
The world’s number four, Swiatek, recorded his ninth straight win against the Madison Keys and showed his excellent form. Playing for his own supporters, he defeated the American (WTA-29) in 57 minutes: 6-1, 6-0.
Former world ranking leader Aleppo, who dropped to 26th place due to injury, Petra Martic needed two minutes less, but lost another game to the Croat (WTA-79): 6 -1, 6-1. Romanian won the tournament in 2015.
