As for the list of 100 nominees, released in June, Portugal lost three players, all linked to Sporting: Rodrigo Ribeiro, Tiago Tomás, who is on loan to Stuttgart, and Joelson Fernandes, who is on loan to Basel.

On the list, voted in succession until reduced to a group of 20 finalists, Francisco Conceição (Ajax/Hol), Diego Moreira (Benfica), Fábio Carvalho (Liverpool/Ing), Fábio Silva (Anderlecht/Bel) , Henrique Araújo (Benfica), Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain/Fra) and Paulo Bernardo (Benfica) are now the Portuguese nominees.

Former Benfica players João Félix (Atlético Madrid, Esp) and Renato Sanches (Paris Saint-Germain, Fra) have already awarded the Portuguese the ‘Golden Boy’ award in 2019 and 2016 respectively.
