Marcelo congratulates five Portuguese athletes with medals at European Championships

On Wednesday, the President of the Republic congratulated the medal-winning Portuguese athletes Pedro Pichardo, Iúri Leitão, Auriol Dongmo, Gabriel Lopes and Diogo Ribeiro, highlighting the “remarkable achievements that radiate the national sport and elevate the name of Portugal”.

In a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa highlights “these remarkable achievements projecting national sport in the most diverse modalities and raising the name of Portugal, leaving a word of encouragement to all athletes who yet to compete”.

Pedro Pichardo won gold in the triple jump on Wednesday at the European Multisport Championships in Munich, Germany. Iúri Leitão became champion in the ‘scratch’ race on track cycling on Sunday.

Pedro Pichardo joins the European gold in the Olympic and world titles and Iúri Leitão wins the European gold again.

The athlete Auriol Dongmo was crowned European vice champion in the shot put on Tuesday, in the same championships.

Swimmers Gabriel Lopes and Diogo Ribeiro won the bronze medal in the 200-meter styles and 50-meter butterfly respectively on Wednesday in the European swimming that takes place in Rome, Italy.
