Australian cyclist Jay Vine (Alpecin-Deceuninck) won the sixth stage of the Vuelta a España this Thursday, at the top of Pico Jano, ahead of Belgian Remco Evenepoel (QuickStep-Alpha Vinyl), second and new leader of the individual general.
Vine, 26, completed the 181.2 kilometers between Bilbao and Pico Jano in 4:38.00, beating Belgium’s Evenepoel by 15 seconds, while Spaniard Enric Mas (Movistar) was third at 16.
Overall, Evenepoel is 21 seconds ahead of the previous leader, Frenchman Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ), now second, with Mas third, at 28. Portuguese João Almeida (UAE Emirates) rose to 10th overall, 1, 54 minutes from the leader.
On Friday, the seventh stage of the Vuelta connects Camargo and Cistierna over 190 kilometers, with a first-class climb, Puerto de San Glorio, in the second half of the trail.
