The promise to increase developer efficiency, not the workforce
According to the 2022 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, more than half of professional developers have CI/CD, DevOps, and automated testing tools and services available in their organization.
However, Stack Overflow found that only 38% of the 34,906 respondents said they have a developer portal to make finding tools and services easier. Similarly, data observation tools are only available to a minority of developers.

These results show that the best practices that have become the norm in startups and technology companies are gaining popularity, but also that there is still a lot of room for progress to improve companies’ efficiency and working environment.
“It’s insane that CI/CD tools, DevOps capabilities, and automated testing are the only categories above 50%,” Shomik Ghosh, partner at Bold Ventures, told TechCrunch. “Which means [that] For what is considered a table for most tech companies and startups, more than half of developers (presumably in other industries) still lack these building blocks.
