Zillow has launched an instant booking feature for tenants on its platform. The company now allows users to instantly book a personalized tour at a convenient time, without having to contact a broker or property manager.
Previously, if someone needed to view a rental property, they had to take a virtual tour of the platform or request a tour that put them in touch with a property manager, complicating the process. Users can now instantly book an appointment – it works similarly to the Calendly meeting scheduling platform.
The company said instant booking functionality is available for tours at 2,600 rental properties, with more being added regularly. The proptech startup also plans to add a feature that allows users to choose the type of tour they want when booking: in-person, self-guided, or a live virtual tour.
According to a survey conducted by Zillow last year, 71% of occupiers visited the property up to four times before deciding to rent one. The platform therefore finds it useful to simplify the booking process by removing the intermediary as an agent.
“Tourism is an important milestone in the search for a rental property, and it’s all about innovation,” Michael Sherman, vice president of Zillow Rentals, said in a written statement.
“Giving renters the ability to book a ride immediately removes barriers and provides a more convenient and integrated experience for renters and property managers. By saving time coordinating appointments, tenants can focus on finding the perfect home without worrying about when to come, and valuable property managers can free up time for other important tasks.”
Zillow laid off 300 employees last October, impacting teams such as Zillow Offer consultants, Zillow Home Loans sales and administrative staff, and Zillow closing services.
