Kyle reports that a founder was frustrated with using standard document applications such as Acrobat and Microsoft Office to print and mark up documents. He wondered why there wasn’t a way to read and write on a PC as smooth as paper, prompting him to try PDF processing software. In 2020, these experiments have turned into a full-featured custom PDF editor. The editor, called Macro, uses AI to extract key terms, sections, and equations to make documents interactive and hyperlinked. Macro raised $9.3 million to continue his journey.
Almost exactly a year ago, dbt Labs highlighted opportunities in the world of data analytics development tools when the startup completed a $222 million Series D at a valuation of $4.2 billion. Psst, some Russian hackers are believed to be behind the “WhisperGate” data-stealing malware used to attack Ukraine. carly reports. She writes that “the information-stealing malware uses filenames designed to represent legitimate Microsoft Office files and is similar to other TA471 tools such as GraphSteel and GrimPlant that were previously used in a phishing campaign specifically against Ukrainian government agencies.” However, this new malware is even more annoying.
