Robinhood announced on Wednesday that its self-custody crypto wallet app is now available to all iOS users. The wallet debuted in beta last September with 10,000 users and no network fees for trading Polygon MATIC tokens. In January, the company released to over 1 million waitlist users.
While the app initially launched exclusively with Polygon, the company has now integrated the Ethereum blockchain with support for over 50 ERC tokens such as COMP, MATIC, SHIB, SOL, UNI, USDC and more.
“Users told us they wanted access to more coins on more chains, so we quickly added support for Ethereum. While acknowledging that it has been a turbulent few months in the cryptocurrency space, we remain committed to our mission to make Robinhood the most trusted, accessible and user-friendly entry point to cryptocurrencies,” said Johann Kerbrat, General Manager of Robin Hood . Crypto said in a blog post.
Robinhood Wallet also allows users to hold their NFTs based on Polygon and Ethereum. They also have access to dApps such as Uniswap, Balancer and Kyberswap. The company noted that it still does not charge network fees for Polygon.
The fintech company said that for security reasons, users must set up a FaceID/Touch ID unlock or a custom PIN to access the app at all times. Also, like other self-custodial wallets such as MetaMask, users must generate and store a recovery phrase.
Robinhood said the app is available in 130 countries on Apple’s App Store and is working to launch an Android version later this year.
Earlier this week, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) cited the company over its cryptocurrency transactions. Meanwhile, robo-consultancy firm Wealthfront has launched a competitive stock trading solution that allows users to invest as little as $1.
