AMLO celebrates Jalife’s release after Tatiana Clouthier’s complaint: “We must guarantee free demonstrations”

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador celebrated the release of political analyst Quadro Alfredo Jalife, who was arrested following a complaint by former federal Economy Minister Tatiana Cloutier for crimes of libel and slander.

“The most important thing is that Jalife has been released. We waited until the night to guarantee his release,” he explained during his morning press conference at the National Palace on Thursday.

The president supported his release, but also spoke positively about former federal Economy Minister Tatiana Clouthier.

“I thank the two who were or are involved in this case, Tatiana. I also love them very much and I hope both parties understand me,” he added.

The president argued that the analyst’s release was supported by the sixth and seventh articles of the constitution on “freedom of ideas.”

“It’s up to us, not directly or otherwise, it’s up to us to solve the problem, we have to guarantee it.” free speech,” exactly.

“We may not agree with what is being expressed, but we must guarantee the right to freedom of expression,” he added.

Political scientist Alfredo Jalife-Rahme was arrested in Mexico City on Wednesday after being accused of libel and slander by former Federal Economy Minister Tatiana Clouthier.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the arrest of the writer and clarified that the aforementioned court order was requested and issued in Nuevo León, where the complaint was filed.

This happened after Tatiana Clouthier filed a lawsuit with the Public Prosecutor of Nuevo León on December 1, 2022, for defamation, slander and whatever the consequences may be.

“Mr. Jalife lied and said that I stole lithium from Mexico and that I handed over the Mexican state to the Americans,” the former secretary said on social network X.
