Washington: “Heavy reward for arresting Russian NotPetya hackers”

The US State Department is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the arrest of six famous Russian hackers. Six people are said to have distributed NotPetya ransomware on behalf of the Russian Military Intelligence Service (GRU).

Ransomware caused major IT problems for Ukrainian companies in 2017. Elsewhere in the world, including the port of Rotterdam, NotPetya has disrupted digital processes and infrastructure.

In the United States, the damage to hospitals and the pharmaceutical industry, among other things, is estimated at approximately one billion dollars. In October 2020, a US federal jury indicted hackers for a series of digital crimes.

In March 2022, there were still a thousand computer systems infected

The suspects had prepared another cyber attack in March 2022. They infect a thousand computer systems so that they can be captured at any time. It was blocked by the US and UK. These countries had already warned about this digital warfare before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Washington has released the names of wanted hackers. Six men work for GRU 74455, also known by experts as Sandworm, Voodoo Bear, Telebots and Iron Viking. The ministry wants to know who the hackers are, where they live and who they work with.
