The Galaxy Watch 4 is an excellent smartwatch, apart from the lack of Google Assistant. Fortunately, the long wait is soon over.
Google Assistant was one of the most notable missing features Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 as of the release date. Fortunately, all that waiting seems to be finally coming to an end. For the most part, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic are the two best smartwatches available in 2022. They have a sleek design, solid health tracking, and decent app support, all starting at just $249.
But there’s one key feature that came out of the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic: Google Assistant after its launch last August. The assistant was the main feature of the old Wear OS smartwatch, allowing you to ask for the weather, manage smarthome devices, send text messages and more with just your voice. But Google Assistant can’t be found on the Galaxy Watch 4. Google has confirmed that the Assistant will be coming to the Watch 4, but neither Google nor Samsung has specified an exact date when that will happen.
Today this is (more or less) changing. Amid a flurry of news from the Google I/O 2022, Samsung quietly posted a blog post titled: “Waring the Future on the Wrist: What’s Next for the Galaxy Watch and Wear OS?” The post looks at Samsung’s partnership with Google for Wear OS 3, the success of the Galaxy Watch 4, and its commitment to release more Google apps/services “optimized” for Galaxy Watches. More importantly, Samsung is also using a blog post to announce that Google Assistant is coming to the Galaxy Watch 4 “this summer.” by Samsung, “This summer, I am pleased to share with you that Galaxy Watch 4 users can download Google Assistant to their devices with faster and more natural voice interaction, enabling faster responses and mobility assistance.
The wait for the assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4 is almost over
As exciting as this news is, it’s important to remember what time the assistant is now. Initially, Samsung would add Google Assistant to the Galaxy Watch 4 at the end of 2021. Of course that never happened. Samsung later announced in February that the assistant still had “months” left to launch, with no reason for the extended delay.
And even after today’s announcement, we still don’t have a specific date. The release of “Summer” means any time from June 21 to September 22. The Google Assistant may have a few more weeks or we may have to wait another three or four months. Ideal? Not. But at least we’re one step closer to the equipped assistant. Samsung Galactic clock 4.
