Twitter checks new ‘Like by author’ tag on tweets

Twitter checks for a new “Like by author” tag that appears when a tweet creator likes your reply. A reporter from the TechCrunch team spotted a new tag in the Twitter for Android app. A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that the company checked several tags to help people put the tweets they see into context, but said the social media giant has nothing more to say about that particular tag.

What we can say so far is that once the answer is liked by Twitter, it will be marked with a badge that is visible to both the person who left the answer and other people who see it. While it has not been confirmed whether the tag is being tested globally, we do see reports from users in several countries discovering the tag.

Note that the new tag is similar to TikTok’s “Creators Likes” badge, which appears similarly when a comment is liked by the video’s creator.

Twitter’s new hashtag may be annoying to some users who see it as a distraction or an unnecessary addition, which could be an already overloaded tweet. It can also seem a bit redundant if it’s displayed next to an answer that only has one approval. On the other hand, some users may consider this a welcome addition, especially if they want to show that a famous client, such as a celebrity, liked his tweet. In addition, the new tag can also be useful in cases where the tweet has received multiple responses and the original author wants to single out some of them without an immediate response.

As the tag is still in the testing phase, it is unknown if Twitter plans to officially release it to all users.
