The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has demanded six to thirty months in prison against the three Amsterdammers. People in their twenties are suspected of stealing about 50,000 euros, including fraudulently, via payment service Tikkie.
According to the OM, the three built a “well-oiled machine of fake criminals”.
A 22-year-old Amsterdammer and one of the two 20-year-old suspects have been sentenced to 30 and 18 months respectively, with a suspended prison sentence of six months. They allegedly carried out both physical theft and phishing attacks; In phishing, the attacker shares a fake link to steal money or information from someone.
The oldest suspect is also said to have sold mobile phones that he should have known had been stolen. In addition, according to the OM, he would have missed expensive skateboards.
At the beginning of 2020, the police tracked down the 22-year-old during the investigation into street robberies. Police were investigating the Marktplaats account for selling stolen phones there. It turned out that the man manages multiple accounts and several buyers have reported phishing. The man sent people to Tikkie who were selling stuff via Marktplaats, apparently to check whether the transaction was reliable, but received a lot of money from the victims via the link. The damage is in the tens of thousands of euros.
Police found the other two men thanks to the 22-year-old man. The third man is suspected of theft. A request has been made for six months, of which three months of suspension. The court will rule on the case on July 11.
