A seller who sells travel vouchers for city holidays has been fined. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) writes that Travelance puts pressure on consumers to pay for something that they do not accept by telephone.
Travelance called consumers “thank you” for completing a digital survey. According to the ACM, the main purpose of the search was to sell coupons for city trips. As a thank you for their participation, a city tour was offered to the citizens. Costs of 99 to 149 euros per voucher were associated with these trips, but this was not immediately clear.
The consumers called out were then pressured by aggressive collections to pay for something they did not accept. In any case, the period in which this happened was from July 2020 to mid-February 2021. The company now claims to have stopped this sales practice.
It has received many reports about Travelance, which, according to the ACM, will receive a fine of 50,000 euros. Travelance can still appeal the decision.
