Mercedes-Benz EQB endurance test: confusing with options

This month we are driving the fully electric EQB 300 4Matic AMG series. From 67,903 euros, but almost 9,000 euros more expensive after the options. What’s the benefit? What can be removed?

For starters, the question is, do you really need four-wheel drive and 228 horsepower? With 190 hp and two-wheel drive you will also get there and, moreover, your autonomy is slightly higher. I would stay in your loafers.

Headache

Our list of options includes a few junk, a few expensive options, and a package over $3,000. When you’re struggling with all the options, Mercedes doesn’t make your job any easier. There are lines and there are options, then there are multi-option packages and sometimes there are unique options. So you might get something with a rule that makes the package partially redundant, but some things aren’t available as separate options. It gives me a headache.

The first option on the list hurts right away. Smartphone integration costs 363 euros. In fact, it is related to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You also seem to be able to try it out for free, but no, smartphone integration will automatically be on your list.

Third row is a bargain

The panoramic sliding roof consists of two parts so that you can have a bright bathroom at both the front and the rear. It costs 1415 euros and if you also like to sit in a light car on gloomy days, I would definitely take a look at it. But suddenly you’re stuck with the Premium package of €599 that includes Keyless Ride comfort with sunroof, an opening tailgate and an upgrade for your sound system. This means that the single option suddenly becomes a bundle.

The third row of seats is a godsend: for 1004 euros you get two folding seats. This will of course cost you some luggage space, but it makes the car a lot more versatile. to do. Unless you have friends and family.

The Night Package costs 242 euros and strangely enough consists of black roof rails, mirrors and tinted glass, no curtains, interior lighting or bright headlights. These tinted windows are already available in our AMG Line version, so if you really want a roof rack, use this option, otherwise don’t.

Nice, there are several colors to choose from at no extra cost, such as white, black, blue, silver, gray and rose gold. Only red and mountain gray are extra. Vegan leather upholstery is also free in our version. If you really want a cow to die in front of your seat, you don’t even have to pay extra for it. This cow does.

Spiral View decorative elements have a somewhat incomprehensible name, but they look attractive in the dark. Behind it shines LED light.

Block remote key

The Urban Guard anti-theft package costs 774 euros and gives you in-app warnings when your car is stolen. But the coolest feature is that you can lock the key remotely. If the car is stolen, including the key, you can lock it from the thief without having to be around.

For 242 euros you have an integrated dash camera. I think without thinking because if you get into an accident, you’re glad you’re in it. You also don’t need to have a separate device built in.

An afternoon puzzle

The EQB we used has most of the options you could wish for, but you’ve lost almost 77,000 euros in that time. Thanks to the option structure used by Mercedes-Benz, it becomes very complicated to find your car with the ideal characteristics.

Make sure the things that really matter to you are standard in the line you choose. This is a Sunday afternoon puzzle.
