Apple: Dutch app economy now good for 220,000 jobs

That’s what Apple says in its annual “app economy” survey. Basically, we look at everyone who is directly involved in creating and maintaining an app or game. The report is based on research from the Progressive Policy Institute and consultancy Analysis Group.

In Europe, the number of jobs in the app economy was 2.2 million last year, an increase of 7% from the previous year. With 219,000 jobs in the app economy, the Netherlands represents about 10% of the whole of Europe. Last year, the Netherlands experienced below-average growth: jobs were 4% higher than the year before.

“Especially small app manufacturers are seeing significant growth”

Most new app makers came from Europe last year: 24%, followed by China (23%) and the United States (14%). According to the Analysis Group report, these new app makers still have good growth potential.

The number of small developers increased by 20% last year. They are developers with a turnover of about $1 million a year. The revenues of these junior developers have increased by 113% in the past two years. That’s more than double the revenue of major app makers.
