Apple plans to keep iPhone production at the same level as last year

Apple wants to keep iPhone production approximately the same as 2021 this year, the agency reports. The tech giant is cautious as the company expects more challenges in the smartphone market. Bloomberg Today.

Apple asks its suppliers to produce about 220 million iPhones. That number is about the same as last year, insiders tell the news agency. Experts had expected 240 million iPhones for this year, partly thanks to the launch of iPhone 14 next fall.

The smartphone market has had a slow start to the year. The number of smartphones shipped fell by 11% in the first quarter. This is the largest drop since the corona pandemic started more than two years ago.

High inflation, war in Ukraine and supply chain disruptions threaten to put pressure on smartphone sales by the end of 2022.

Apple declined to comment on the outlook, which could change in the coming months. Apple does not disclose its own production targets and has not released separate sales figures for the iPhone since 2019.

The tech company warned that delivery problems would exacerbate revenue from $4 billion to $8 billion (3.7 billion to 7.5 billion euros) in the current quarter.
