Government agencies can continue to use the Google Workspace cloud service. Google Cloud has committed to make adjustments to the central government to address risks to privacy and transparency.
Google Cloud and Justice and Security Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius announced an agreement to allow Google Workspace to continue to be used by government agencies. Programs such as Docs, Meets and Chat are part of Workspace.
It is not clear which privacy settings are involved. The minister writes that compliance with the promised changes will be monitored. In addition, it is continuously monitored whether Google Cloud still complies with European privacy rules.
The Ministry of Justice and Security announced last year that government agencies will only use Google Workspace if the service complies with privacy legislation. Research has shown that when using Workspace, personal data is unlawfully processed.
Last year, Google already reached an agreement with educational institutions about the use of Google services in Dutch schools. This agreement comes one month after the Dutch Data Protection Authority advised against the use of Google services.
