The NL-Alert test message will be sent a week later in connection with Pentecost.

The government has postponed sending the NL-Alert test message by a week because of Pentecost on Monday. The alarm system must be able to alert all Dutch residents in the event of an emergency.

Every six months, the government sends a test message to check whether the system works properly. This usually happens on the first Monday of June and December.

But since Whit Monday falls on the first Monday in June, the government is postponing the test for a week. The message will now be sent on Monday, June 13 at 12 noon.

For example, if an attack is committed by a foreign power, citizens are informed via the NL-Alert system. The system can also be used in the event of local calamities such as a gas leak or a major fire.

NL-Alert is in principle intended for citizens with a mobile phone. If your phone rings, an audible alarm will sound when you receive the message.

Residents without a mobile phone will not receive any messages. NL-Alert is also increasingly being displayed in public places such as bus stops and billboards.
