NFTs have become popular in the past year for buying and selling digital artworks. More and more major platforms, including Twitter, Spotify and Reddit, have already added support for NFTs so that users can display them as a profile picture, for example. Instagram added NFTs for its first batch of users in May.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg now says the NFT feature is coming to Facebook soon, initially for a small group of American creators. It will also be possible to cross-post NFT to Facebook and Instagram at the same time.
According to Zuckerberg, testing with NFTs on Instagram will be further expanded, as NFTs can also be seen on Instagram stories, including with AR filters.
No commission until 2024
Meta has made more announcements for influencers and creators looking to monetize their social media platforms. For example, they do not have to pay commission on their income until 2024. All the money goes to the influencers themselves. According to Zuckerberg, these are paid online events, subscriptions, badges and newsletters.
Influencers on Instagram and Facebook can offer their followers paid subscriptions that give them exclusive access to posts, videos or chats. Meta said last year that it will not take any commissions until 2023, adding another year.
Meta also offers paid subscribers on other platforms access to subscriber-only Facebook groups. The feature, which allows followers to buy and distribute virtual stars, will also apply to a larger group of Facebook influencers. As a result, according to Zuckerberg, “more people can earn from their roles, live streams or videos.”
