Computer failure stops at Maastricht hospital: Friday appointments continue

The technical malfunction that paralyzed the Maastricht University Medical Center (MUMC+) on Thursday is over. Friday appointments can be resumed.

Thousands of patients could not be treated in hospital on Thursday as a digital system failure caused the hospital to crash. All outpatient clinics were closed.

A spokesperson says that only oncology, nuclear medicine, outpatient clinic for pregnant women and dialysis are still open. Scheduled patient admissions can continue.

The hospital was no longer reachable by phone or digitally since 9.15 am. Also, patient data systems were shut down, making consultations and treatments nearly impossible.

The spokesperson could not say what caused the outage. “It’s almost certainly not a hack. “We suspect a technical reason,” he said.

“It took a long time. We’re glad it’s over. We had to take drastic measures to secure him. It will be a huge task to reschedule every match that didn’t take place.”

Those who came to the hospital in vain were treated and sent home. The hospital calls them to make a new appointment.
