War, Ukraine submits application for NATO membership

Major maneuvers in terms of military alliances. The ongoing war in Ukraine accelerates the dynamics of confrontation, but at the same time also the processes of aggregation. Ukraine is an example of this and the government of Kiev has officially applied for membership of the Atlantic Alliance.

The request was delivered to the secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance. Independent Kyiv writes. Ambassadors from member countries will discuss the request in Brussels, said Ihor Zhovkva, deputy chief of staff at the Ukrainian presidency. Nine European NATO members signed a declaration in favor of Kiev’s admission after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky decided on September 30 to call for a fast track to membership. To join NATO, the assent of all 30 member countries of the Alliance is required.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared “null” the treaties signed on Friday by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to annex the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia in the Russian Federation. With a decree, Zelensky highlighted Ukraine’s “sovereign right” over the four regions claimed by Russia and recalled that Ukraine’s independence in 1991 already reflected that it was an “indivisible and inviolable” country. Zelensky also appealed to international law, as he did when appealing to it against the legitimacy of the referendums held by Russian authorities in the four regions that Moscow now claims as its own. The Ukrainian president responded to the neighboring country’s expansionist aspirations by calling for Ukraine’s membership of NATO and approving a series of objectives that, among others, include new pressure measures on Russia and the clear rejection of any dialogue as long as Putin remains in power.
