When he heard screams from the hotel room next to him, he immediately ran to help. trying to save a young woman who was on the floor lifeless, unfortunately to no avail. He would never have suspected that right after the police were knocking on his door to arrest him for murder of the woman.
It’s the incredible story that happened to Wayne Kenny, an English family man who, despite everything, ended up in handcuffs for a very serious crime just for trying to give help a stranger while staying at a hotel in Liverpool.
The facts unfolded last month when the father of the family heard someone screaming for help from the next room. He immediately ran to the scene and found Chloe Haynes, 21, on the floor lifelesscrushed by a closet.
The man immediately tried resuscitation maneuver learned in a course of first medical intervention, but unfortunately the girl did not make it.
As others present asked for help, he returned to his room, but shortly afterwards the police knocked on the door and arrested him for murder.
The 46-year-old ended up in his cell and was interrogated several times about being released from prison without any formal charges.
According to what was later reconstructed, after a night of celebrations in the region, the young woman slept in the hotel. It is believed that she got up in the middle of the night and mistook a closet for the bathroom door and was crushed by the heavy closet.
The discovery only in the morning, when one of her friends came back and he found her trapped under the furniture. It was the latter who screamed for help and attracted the attention of Wayne Kenny and other friends.
Both her friend and Wayne, however, ended up in the crosshairs of the police and arrested for murder along with two other friends of the young woman who also intervened shortly afterwards.
“I was back in my room and I had started getting ready to go out and start the day. The police knocked and asked me if I was the person who was in the girl’s room earlier. I said yes and the officer told me I was under arrest. I said for what? And he said for murder,” the 47-year-old told the Liverpool Echo.
Since his release, Wayne Kenny has also lost his job, but says he has no regrets about trying to help Chloe. “I keep seeing his face. In my dreams I can save you. I would do it again” he declared.
