It’s certainly one of the recurring nightmares for many people: being locked in a coffin while still alive. An anguish that became a tragic reality in Australia, where Kevin Reid At age 55, he was pronounced dead and, after being stuffed into a plastic bag, was taken to the morgue at Rockingham General Hospital near Perth. Now the authorities are trying to understand how this drama could have happened.

The man was admitted to hospice care at the hospital in southwestern metropolitan Perth. Declared dead, he was taken to the hospital morgue. The next day, however, the doctor found the bag where Reid was open. The 55-year-old had fresh blood from a wound on his arm and his eyes were open (witnesses from the morgue staff claimed that when he was brought in, Reid had his eyes closed).

The news was released by the Australian judiciary which examined several clues found in the victim’s body. Reid was reportedly pronounced dead on September 5 not by a doctor, but by some “ward nurses” who decided to move into the morgue without a doctor’s advice.

“I believe fresh blood from a new skin tear, arm position and eye marks was inconsistent with a person who was post-mortem on arrival at the morgue,” said the medical examiner who found Reid, now lifeless. According to local media reports, the man’s death certificate was initially dated September 6, but given the “abnormalities” found on the body, it was decided to roll it back to 5.
