German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) wants to replace the head of the Federal Office for Information Security’s BSI (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik) agency, Arne Schoenbohm, after a report by broadcaster ‘Zdf Magazin Royale’ reported contacts between Schoenbohm himself and an association – Cyber-Sicherheitsrat Deutschland – which allegedly has contacts with Russian secret services.
“We are looking at how to get a quick change of president,” the newspaper ‘Bild’ reported, citing the Federal Interior Ministry. ‘Handelsblatt’ and ‘der Spiegel’ also reported a planned replacement for Schoenbohm, citing government circles. According to the program moderated by Jan Boehmermann, Schoenbohm would be in constant contact with the association. The ‘Handelsblatt’ – citing government sources – speaks of “great irritation” towards the president of the BSI. The allegations were taken “very seriously” and “all options were examined” on how to withdraw Schönbohm, director of the German cybersecurity agency. However, the planned joint participation of Faeser and Schoenbohm in the presentation of the report on the management of Bsi 2022 next Thursday has been cancelled.
