Ukraine, warns Belarus: “What will happen to you if you go to war”

Belarus “would do well” not to go to war in Ukraine. The warning in Minsk comes from the head of French diplomacy, Catherine Colonna, who raised the possibility of further sanctioning the country, an ally of Moscow. According to Colonna, “the topic will certainly be on the agenda of the G7 debate” that meets today by videoconference, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, also present at the opening, in remote connection. “We must issue a warning to this country. Any further support for Russia’s war in Ukraine would lead to more sanctions,” Colonna said.

Belarus, Russia’s ally in its conflict with Ukraine, has already lent its territory to Moscow for its offensive against Kiev, but the Belarusian army has so far not participated in the fighting on Ukrainian territory. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko yesterday accused Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine of preparing “terrorist” attacks and announced the deployment of a joint “regional” military group to Moscow.
