Europe will not surrender to the violence of Putin’s Russia. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the Union will not stop with its policy of opposing the Kremlin’s war actions in Eastern Europe. Von der Leyen announces new sanctions and a clear desire to stand by Ukraine. In particular, von der Leyen responded to Belarus’ decision to support Putin’s aggression. «The G7 condemns Russia’s escalation of violence against civilians in Ukraine – von der Leyen said at the end of the G7 meeting – We will stand by Kiev for as long as necessary and strengthen our sanctions against Russia. Belarus’ support for Russian aggression must have consequences. Actions to reduce energy prices were also discussed».
At the G7 leaders’ meeting via video conference, the leaders addressed in particular the escalation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and support for Ukraine. “I am shocked and horrified by the fierce attacks on Kiev and other Ukrainian cities – von der Leyen said after the Russian attacks on Ukraine – Once again Russia has shown the world what it stands for: terror and brutality. Those responsible must be held accountable We grieve for the victims and send my deepest condolences to our Ukrainian friends. I know that Ukrainians will not be intimidated. And Ukrainians know that we will stand by them for as long as necessary.”
