he had left alone at home, her 7-year-old disabled daughter, with cerebral palsy, bedridden and with the feeding tube still attached. The reason? He had to go to the bar to party.

After a report to the Matagorda County Sheriff, officers raided his daughter’s home and found the girl still there, immobile but lifeless. They were found alive in the apartment also the other two sons of the woman: one for five years and the other for only three months.

On the 5th of October, Laurent Kay Dean, 27, a resident of Bay City, about 128 kilometers southwest of Houston, Texas, pleaded guilty to murdering her daughter, Jordynn Barrera, who died in January 2020. The girl had Down syndrome. Also, due to cerebral palsy, she was forced to tube feed. Rea confesses that her mother was sentenced to life in prison and another twenty years in prison. The news of the sentence was reported by the Texan television station KTRK.

Dean was arrested and incarcerated in Matagorda County Jail on three felony counts: abandonment, child endangerment, and imminent danger of personal injury. The woman, on January 30, 2020, went with some friends to Shade’s Bar in Bay City, leaving her children alone at home, including Jordynn, who needed constant surveillance and care.

According to the local newspaper City of the Bay Tribune, Dean would have chosen to plead guilty to all counts, not go to trial before a jury and thus get a discount on the sentence, thus avoiding a probable death sentence. The woman he will therefore spend the rest of his life behind bars. She will hardly see her children again.
