“Ukraine needs $57 billion to cover the budget deficit next year and rebuild crucial infrastructure and energy.” This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking via video link to IMF and World Bank meetings. Zelensky also called for a credit limit of 5 billion for the purchase of gas and coal. Zelensky therefore asks the international forum of countries involved in assistance in Kiev for help. According to Ukraine’s president, the more aid arrives in his country, the sooner the ongoing conflict will end. “The more assistance Ukraine receives now, the sooner the cruel war” unleashed by Russia will end, without “spreading to other countries”. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who spoke in a video link to the Second Ministerial Discussion in Support of Ukraine, co-chaired by the Ukrainian government, World Bank President David Malpass and IMF Executive Director Kristalina Georgieva.
In his speech, Volodymyr Zelensky launched a series of proposals for short-term financial needs and for the reconstruction of the country. Among them, the creation of a “financial support coordination”, along the lines of the Contact Group created in Ramstein. “As a terrorist state tries to intimidate us more and more, we must respond with more cooperation,” said the Ukrainian president. “Terror must lose and Ukraine must win and that is possible with your support,” he concluded.
