Vladimir Putin is not crazy, he is a rational man who made wrong assessments about the invasion of Ukraine.
To say – in an interview with CNN – US President Joe Biden, according to which the head of the Kremlin will not resort to tactical nuclear weapons.
“Put on he thought he would be welcomed with open arms that Kiev was the home of Mother Russia, but I think she did the math badly,” Biden said with a hint of irony, clearly referring to the defeats inflicted by Ukraine on the Russian army.
When interviewer Jake Tapper was asked how realistic he thought Putin was using a tactical nuke, Biden replied, “Well, I don’t think he will.”
The US president’s remarks came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of launching a “second wave of terrorist attacks” after the explosion that damaged the Kerch Bridge in Crimea.
Biden: ‘I see no reason to meet Putin now’
When asked if he would meet Putin at next month’s G20 summit in Indonesia, Biden replied that at the time he sees no good reason for a meeting. “It depends on what he wants to talk about,” Biden said, adding that if Putin wanted to discuss incarcerated American basketball star Brittney Griner, he would be willing to discuss it.
Not from the war, however: “He acted brutally, he acted brutally,” the US president said. “I think he committed war crimes. And that’s why I don’t see him, I don’t see the point in meeting him now.”
Nuclear Weapons: “I Can’t Say What We Would Do If Putin Used Nuclear Weapons”
Biden said he was quite confident that Putin would not employ a tactical nuclear weapon and that “it is irresponsible for him to talk about it, the idea that a world leader of one of the world’s biggest nuclear powers says he could use a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine is irresponsible,” added the White House chief, adding, however, that it is not possible to completely rule out this hypothesis. “Mistakes can be made. And a miscalculation can occur, no one can be sure what would happen” and if Russia used atomic bombs “it could cause an Armageddon”.
Biden declined to reveal what the US response would be if Putin continued his nuclear threats. “There are discussions about that, but I won’t go into that. It would be irresponsible of me to talk about what we would or wouldn’t do,” Biden said.
