Is the no-fly zone coming to Ukraine? After months of not talking about one of Kiev’s initial requests to NATO, a turning point appears to have arrived. Speaking about this is Andriy Yermak, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, who used clear words on Twitter: “Another Ramstein. It is a historic event, because it is decided to close the sky of Ukraine. Strengthening airspace and missile defense systems is what we need. We are in constant dialogue with our allies. I discussed the issue of modern anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems for Ukraine with Jake Sullivan.”
Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander James Stavridis also commented on closing the skies as the next step in the war with Russia: “Ukraine needs the best air defenses we can provide, including military aircraft. And if Vladimir Putin continues this campaign of terrorist attacks, NATO may have to consider the no-fly zone. It would be a significant and dangerous escalation and we must communicate this risk to Putin.”
