Russia is in favor of a quick diplomatic solution of the Ukrainian question, does not want to ‘shatter anyone’ and wants to live peacefully with Ukraine and with the whole of Europe.

This was stated by the deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council, Alexander Venediktov, in an interview with Tass. According to the top defense official, however, Moscow he cannot sacrifice his own safety.

Following the vote by the United Nations Assembly, which has a large majority condemned the Russian annexation of four Ukrainian oblaststhe possibility of peace talks is being held soon.

Commenting on Ankara’s proposals to call for talks between Russia and Western countries (United Kingdom, United States, Germany and France) on the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible, Venediktov said he was grateful to Turkey “for the efforts that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan he is doing personally to try to resolve the conflict peacefully, “efforts that have been carried out since the first months of the war.

“Russia is also an advocate of an early diplomatic solution to the problem. Unlike other states, we don’t want to solve everything by force, we do not ask for the destruction of the enemy, we do not seek to erase him. No, we want to peacefully coexist not just with Ukraine, but with all of Europe,” Venediktov said.

The deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council stressed, however, that Moscow hopes that Russian demands on its security will be taken more seriously abroad. “The security of one cannot be provided at the expense of the other. Until now, in recent years, Europeans have tried to guarantee their security at our expense,” Venediktov said.

Any peace talks, therefore, are likely to focus on NATO’s eastward enlargement and Ukraine’s relinquishment of membership.
