A commercial plane took off from Dalamanin Turkey, and aimed at Manchester he was diverted to London Stansted airport after being escorted by two Eurofighter Typhoons: authorities believed the aircraft posed a possible security threat.

The RAF confirmed that two Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon jets were activated once the alarm reached the proper authorities.

The Turkish flight was due to land at Manchester airport at 9:40 pm last night but was forced to land in London, where it landed shortly after 9:20 pm.

The UK Air Force confirmed that the fighter jets were evacuated to reach a plane that “gave cause for concern” and that was hijacked due to a “potential security issue”. The exact nature of the concern was not specified. Unconfirmed reports say the flight could have been threatened by a bomb.

A woman who had a friend on board said: “She called me after landing saying they had been kidnapped due to a bomb scare.” He added that “apparently none of the passengers realized they were escorted by fighter jets. After landing, they were told they were to remain on the plane.”

Another passenger said on social media that he saw armed police hovering around the plane after it landed, but the passengers were not told why they stopped unexpectedly.
