A NATO exercise, Neptune Strike, is underway in the Mediterranean Sea. The exercise, which takes place from October 14 to 19, involves more than 10 countries allied with the Atlantic Pact, including the United States, Italy, Romania, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania and Poland. According to the leak, the exercise aims to improve interoperability and communication capabilities between allied naval and air forces commands in order to deter Russian threats and defend NATO territory.

“NATO is a defensive alliance and we will defend every inch of neutral territory.” Admiral Dennis Velez, head of the US Carrier Strike Group Ten fleet, reiterated the defensive nature of the maneuvers speaking to reporters aboard the aircraft carrier WHBush. Arrived in the Mediterranean last August, the aircraft carrier named after the former American president recently took over the command of NATO, replacing Truman, and began a “surveillance” activity. In addition to the United States, Albania, Canada, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom participate in the exercise.
