Following yesterday’s conversation between Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the need arose to provide Ukraine, in the sixth aid decree, with the deployment of anti-missile defense systems. The Italian army would have Samp/T, Stinger and Aspide systems at its disposal.
The two ministers, reports Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder, “reflected on the close bilateral defense relationship between the United States and Italy” and discussed “ongoing collaboration in support of Ukraine, including air defense.”
The Pentagon chief “applauded the Italian leadership and robust contributions to coalition operations around the world, and thanked
Crosetto for the hospitality provided by Italy to US forces». Austin also thanked the new Italian defense minister “for his commitment to supporting Italian military aid to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression.” Austin and Crosetto agreed to maintain “close collaboration” to advance the US-Italy partnership in terms of defense.
