The Russian army is slowing down retreating from Kherson🇧🇷 According to the adviser to the regional administration in exile, Sergii Khlan, the withdrawal began even before the official order issued a short while ago by the Russian Defense Minister. Sergey Shoigu: the army is taking down the entire front line and the occupiers have started to retreat. According to the Ukrainian official, however, the armed forces in Moscow are blowing up the bridges before leaving the territory.
Meanwhile, the Russian military tried to strengthen some positions to ensure the safe withdrawal of troops without incurring ambushes by the Ukrainian army. Kherson’s destiny is therefore being fulfilled in these hours: the region is indeed target of a counteroffensive in Kiev and it is one of the strategic conquests collected by Moscow since the beginning of the invasion.
According to Kiev authorities, the Russians tried to defend the territory by creating at least three lines of defense on the right bank of the Dnipro with trenches, underground points for vehicles, ditches and obstacles such as “dragon’s teeth”. However, there are not enough structures to resist the Ukrainian advance with Western weapons.
Kiev’s response: “We do not see signs withdrawn”
Ukrainian President Mykhaylo Podolyak’s adviser said Kiev had seen no sign of Russian military withdrawal from Kherson. According to Ukrainian authorities, the Russian Defense Minister’s announcement was a “television hoax”. “We saw no sign of Kherson pulling out without a fight,” Podolyak tweeted.
