Moscow announces its withdrawal from the key city of Kherson, but Kiev urges caution. The Ukrainian political and military leadership, in fact, has repeatedly emphasized that, for the moment, Russian troop movements remain unclear and that it could be counterproductive to “sing victory” until a more complete picture of the situation on the ground is defined.
A concept reaffirmed in the usual message to the nation also by President Volodymyr Zelensky, who urged everyone to moderate despite the evident “enthusiasm of the media”, warning that “the enemy does not give gifts, does not make gestures of goodwill. You will have to fight to advance and when fighting, you will have to understand that every step will meet the enemy’s resistance and will always lead to the loss of our heroes’ lives. Therefore, we must act very carefully, without emotions, without unnecessary risks. In the interest of the liberation of all our land and so that losses are as small as possible ».
For Mykhailo Podolyak, the president’s right-hand man, “as long as the Ukrainian flag is not on Kherson, it makes no sense to talk about a Russian withdrawal. We see no signs that Russia intends to leave Kherson without a fight.’ Echoes Oleksiy Arestovych, also in the presidential office, for whom Moscow’s intentions remain unclear. “They are moving to the other bank of the Dnieper, but not as would happen if it was a complete retreat or a grouping, and at the moment we don’t know their intentions: will they commit to fight with us and try to keep the city of Kherson? they are moving very slowly.’
