For almost a year, he used the classrooms and dormitories of one of the largest and most prestigious American universities, without being a student, professor or any other employee. When asked who he was, he would come up with a different excuse each time and move from one wing of the campus to the other to allay suspicions.

So William Curry20, of Birmingham, Alabama, was living illegally in theStanford University, California, without ever paying a penny in tax. University security kicked him out of the facility in late October, for the fourth time since December 2021🇧🇷 The boy was also accused of stealing a TV from a dormitory.

According to the university newspaper Stanford DailyCurry has been telling lie after lie for about ten months now: sometimes he pretended to be a medical student, sometimes he was a member of the track team who won a scholarship, sometimes he was a “visiting” academic from another university. in the country.

“He stayed in the Murray House quarters for months, then left when suspicions began to circulate about him. Then he broke into the East House, a dormitory next door. There was also a student who came home over the weekend: when she returned to campus, she discovered that Curry had taken her room.”

he told the Mirror Theo Bakerthe journalism student who first spread the imposter story in Stanford Daily🇧🇷

Baker himself reported that the boy was even surprised one day by campus security sleeping in a basement: Curry on that occasion would have easily deceived the agents, telling them that he was just a homeless person who had taken refuge there to escape a flood.

In addition, the university newspaper would also have asked the university administration to look at the lists of people staying in the various student dormitories, in order to verify who had the right to enter the premises and who did not. The request, however, was refused out of “respect for privacy”.

Baker would also have had the opportunity to personally ask the invader the reason for all those lies, repeated endlessly to remain “connected” to the university classrooms: the imposter, however, would not have given a convincing answer.

“More than going to class, he spent most of his time socializing with other students and trying to feel part of the community,” said the novice reporter.

The would-be reporter would then ask for another explanation from a Curry’s former school friend: the latter would have somehow confirmed his suspicions, claiming that Curry was “obsessed with Stanford University”.

Basically, according to what emerged from the various testimonies, the boy wanted to live at all costs like a normal student at the American university and would never have allowed strict selection procedures or lack of funding to put a spoke in the wheel.

“Mr. Curry’s perseverance and his unique ability to integrate with the student community revealed gaps in security protocols,” a Stanford University spokesperson said in Statesman’s Diary – we will immediately start a review of our internal procedures to not allow this type of situation to happen again”.
